Stress & Letting it all the eff GO

Buddha was asked, what have you gained from meditation? He replied, “Nothing. However Let me tell you what I lost: Anger, Anxiety, Depression, Insecurity, Fear of old age and death.”

I don’t know if that’s true. I wasn’t there. But I stand by the gist of it. I look at stuff for what I can gain by it, but it’s nice & productive to look at what I lose, too.

WE live in a WORLD WHERE we have to DO. RESULTS ARE IMPORTANT. WE HAVE TO GET. GET DO GET DO GET DO. THAT’S US ALL DAY LONG. AND WE GET ATTACHED to  results and status and what other people will think of us. We get caught up in competing with others in the race of who’s life is more super exciting and important. (Thx Social Media!!). I know I do. If there’s not a bag of money or a jar of compliments at the end of work, what’s the point?

We’re (almost) never told to LET GO…  UNLESS it’s to let go of a bad habit that inhibits our money-maker or productivity. Or to let go of 300 cal a day so we can lose a consistent 1.5-2 pounds a week.   We’re a Titanic culture – WE NEVER LET GO.

And IT’S STRESSFUL….IT’S REALLY FUCKING STRESSFUL

And stress is bad. STRESS WILL KILL YOU

STRESS SHOULD HAVE IT’S OWN NETFLIX DOCU-SERIES BC IT IS A MURDERER!!!!

So, meditation is one way to let go.

Fear comes up. So we meditate…And we let go. ..As we notice our breath again, we let of thoughts and anxieties that ride around on thoughts…Happiness. …Then Fear comes up! Totally normal. First part of your brain that was created was fear/fight/flight/fuck part. Primally and with each person made. It’s the first part. Protecting you. First part that comes up. So we meditate….let go…Happiness.. repeat infinity.

I talk about this on my How to Hate Yourself podcast here & you can meditate right along with me.

It helps.
