I did something I rarely do, I bought a watermelon. They just seem like a hassle to cut up. But they're one of my all-time favorite things. And nearly the definition of summer. Growing up, my mom ALWAYS went to the trouble to cube up melons. She'd even get out the melon baller for special occasions. We always had a big tub of cut-up cantaloupe and watermelon in the outside fridge.
Every now and then, we'd get yellow watermelon and/or honeydew melon. Nice.
Here's something I discovered recently. Watermelon + Basil
I read somewhere that it makes a great detox juice.
So, having watermelon, I cubed it up and put it in a canister. Then I went out to the garden and got some basil. By garden, I mean the basil plant on our porch.
I also had some parsley, so... why not? And strawberries, put them in there, too. I know that balsamic vinegar is good on both strawberries and watermelon.
And here's what I birthed!
salt & pepper
splash of balsamic vinegar
I put in a little parsley, too, but it's not needed.
